Benjamin Began playing guitar at age six for fun. His father, Samuel J. Turner (Also known as Smokin' Sam because he could always be seen smoking a pipe & smokin' that steel guitar), has played pedal steel guitar, bass, guitar, banjo, mandolin & vocals. His father spent most of his life performing with several different bands. (Tulsa, Pure Country & Austin Brothers to name a few) At age 6 Ben took and interest in wanting to play the guitar. Ben learned a few chords and began taking his guitar to his father's shows & strumming along. At the age of ten he took an interest in drums and moved on to them. At age 12, though, things began to change. Upon watching a movie with his father, Benjamin was told that he could be taught to play a song from the movie on pedal steel guitar. This sparked his interest and he gave it a try. Within two hours and from the help of his father he was able to play the entire song, note for note. It was at this time that he had found that his gift for music was for playing pedal steel guitar, just like his father had done for many years. At the age of 13, less than one year after starting on the steel guitar, he began playing gigs. Ironically, he played with many of the same musicians his father had played with in the past. His love for playing in shows was so great that any opportunity presented to him to play, he took advantage of. This included gigs, jam sessions, private parties and shows up and down the east coast. Now more than 20 years later, Ben still seeks out fellow musicians with the same drive and a love for similar types of music.
